$20k in First Week: Key Takeaways in Launch

Step by step guide to scaling a store to $1m a month

Startup

$20k First Week of Launch

Let’s break down the image below to talk about how to approach a ramp up.

But let me first give some context…
This store had 0 previous customers.
This was a new brand, domain, social media and everything!
So this startup is truly starting from ZERO. Digging in…

Key takeaways here:

Takeaway 1: Traffic from Google Shopping is converting better than Facebook ads so we are focusing mostly on Google ads now. You must double down on what is working and stop trying to get what is not working to convert for you. We will get back to scaling Facebook ads but we are only running retargeting ads right now, no cold traffic ads are running on Facebook.

Takeaway 2: Store conversion rate is low for a few reasons. Reason 1: people do not trust our brand yet. We need to keep working on improving the site to be more trustworthy. Reason 2: we need to start some influencer promotions so we can use those UGC ads in retargeting. Reason 3: we do not have return customers yet, this is all first time visitors buying, so we need to earn business loyalty over time and our conversion rate will increase.

Takeaway 3: We need to get more products listed on the store. We have data now on what people are buying so we can use those datasets from Google ads to start optimizing our store, collections, home page and advertising to match the demand.

Takeaway 4: We can now eliminate keywords and targeting in Google that is not performing for the store. In the beginning campaigns will be expensive to get started, then you have to create negative targets to eliminate wasteful impressions to the wrong audience.

Takeaway 5: Once we have an audience of buyers over 2000, then we can start building lists on Google and Facebook to start targeting lookalike audiences. Customer data is essential! Not traffic data… real customers!

Our Google Ads for the week

As you can see, impressions are a little high. As we start drilling down to our bestsellers, we will increase our CTR with having a more targeting campaign. That is essential for bringing down the cost per sale.

Overall we spent $4k to make $20k, right out the gate we are on the right path.

And I will continue to keep you updated as we test more plugins and tips to get this store dialed in to making $1m a month!

I would like to have our first $1m in November of this year! A lot of work to do, so I will get back at it! And I will keep you updated on progress with email marketing, SMS marketing, Facebook ads, Google ads and TikTok ads as we start ramping up!

Cheers!
